Autism - Carter

At 9 years old, Carter was typical of the children we see who are diagnosed on the Autism spectrum. He was sweet and eager to please, but increasingly struggling as his peers developed socially, leaving him feeling different and left behind…When he was younger, he was slow to speak and received both occupational and speech therapy.

Carter’s senses were at a constant 10. Always on the edge of what his senses could tolerate, and anything that exceeded this threshold felt overwhelming. Carter had friends, but he struggled with social cues that became increasingly subtle each year. His frustration was vented in emotional outbursts, especially at home where he felt safe to be himself.

Our experience with autism is consistent with the research: Difficulties associated with an autism diagnosis stem from differences in brain connectivity, which in turn affect function. Using sophisticated SW LORETA qEEG, we were able to see these differences in Carter – reduced connectivity in the left hemisphere in areas associated with language (i), and in the right hemisphere in areas involved in sensory processing, and both social and emotional function (ii). Using highly advanced neurofeedback, we rewarded improvements in these areas.
